Megapnosaurus was a meat-eating theropod that lived in the Late Triassic to Early Jurassic, 237 to 193 million years ago. It belongs to the family Coelophysidae.
The Paleobiology Database lists 6 finds of Megapnosaurus, from Zimbabwe and South Africa. Its fossils come from rocks including the Forest Sandstone Formation, the Elliot Formation and the Nyamandhlovu Sandstones Formation. It was named by Ivie et al. in 2001.
