Mononykus was a meat-eating theropod that lived in the Late Cretaceous, 84 to 66 million years ago. It belongs to the family Alvarezsauridae.
The Paleobiology Database lists 5 finds of Mononykus, from Mongolia. Its fossils come from rocks including the Nemegt Formation and the Djadokhta Formation. It was named by Perle et al. in 1993.
