The Jurassic

During the Jurassic, Pangaea began to split into a northern landmass, Laurasia, and a southern one, Gondwana. New seas opened between them and the climate became warmer and wetter.

This was the age of giant sauropods such as Brachiosaurus, Diplodocus and Brontosaurus, of plated Stegosaurus and of big predators like Allosaurus. The first birds, including Archaeopteryx, appeared in the Late Jurassic.
